We provide the
services below. However,
please note that we are unable to
complete passport applications,
shotgun/gun applications and it is
unlikely that the GP will be able to
write a letter excusing patients
from Jury service unless they have a
severe, chronic illness.
Antenatal
Clinics
These are held on Mondays at
1.30p.m. by the midwife. These are
important as they ensure that the
mother and her baby are progressing
well.
Family
Planning
We have a Sister who is family
planning trained and you should see
her for family planning matters
including coil checks. Coils may be
fitted by appointment with either Dr
Michael or Dr Barton. Please book a
double appointment for these
fittings with the practice nurse and
the doctor.
Immunisation Clinics
These are held on Wednesday
afternoons between 3.30 - 4.20p.m.
by Sister Davey. It is important for
your child to be immunised against
common childhood diseases. More
information can be obtained from Sr
Davey or the Health Visitor.
Emergency
Contraception
We have a family planning trained
nurse, and if emergency
contraception is required you should
contact the surgery during opening
hours to request an appointment with
the nurse. The surgery takes part in
the “U”card scheme.
Emergency contraception can also be
obtained at the young persons
clinic, which is a drop in clinic at
Paulton Hospital. This runs from 3pm
– 9pm weekdays and at weekends.
Asthma and
COPD
Our asthma trained nurse holds a specific
asthma/COPD clinic every Wednesday
afternoon.
We offer an annual review to anyone
with asthma via a recall system and
more frequently if your asthma is
not well controlled.
Minor
Surgery
Some minor surgery work is
undertaken within the practice. You
will need to make an appointment
with your GP to discuss the problem.
If the problem is suitable for in
house minor surgery you will be
asked to make a double appointment
with both the GP and the nurse. You
will also be asked to sign a consent
form.
Physiotherapy
We have a physiotherapist who
undertakes one session a week within
the practice. This is held on a
Thursday morning. You can self refer
to the physiotherapist if you have
had any of the following problems
occur within the last 5 days:
- Joint sprain
- Neck or back
pain (not ongoing problems)
- Whiplash
- Sports injury
You do not need to
see the GP first.
Counselling
We offer a counselling service on
Friday mornings and Friday
afternoons. You will need to obtain
a referral from your GP.
The practice nurse also runs CBT
(looking at coping and dealing with
Anxiety and Depression). Again you
will need a referral from your GP.
Locally at Paulton hospital stress
management courses are run by the
Primary Care Trust (PCT). These are
sessions of 6 weeks details of which
are available from the surgery.
Diabetes
A full diabetic check with the eye
camera is offered to all diabetic
patients on an annual basis. This
usually takes place between June and
September. We have a diabetic
trained nurse, Eleanor Davey, who
will be happy to discuss any
questions you may have regarding
diabetes.
Chronic
disease
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD),
Epilepsy, hypertension, stroke and
mental health clinics are run on a
regular basis by recall system and
patients will be contacted and asked
to make an appointment.
Support to
stop Smoking
We offer support to help patients
stop smoking. Appointments can be
made with either of the practice
nurses for this. If you have a young
family you may prefer the health
visitor to help you.
Travel
advice and vaccination
The practice nurses offer travel
advice. Please make an appt to
discuss your travel plans. The
nurses will then be able to advise
and administer any vaccinations
which are required. Some
vaccinations are free to patients,
but others have to be paid for.
